Improved sex life, another side effect of exercise?

As a trainer, I meet and work with people of all ages, sizes, backgrounds, circumstances and needs. I
have had the privilege to walk hand in hand with people as they improve their general health, their
bodies, their attitudes and even their sex life. With all the known benefits of exercise, improved sex life
is the one that I previously hadn’t given much thought to, until I started seeing a pattern emerge.
People who exercise regularly tend to have a richer more fulfilling sex life.

There are different possible explanations for this and it seems that the reasons might not be the
same for everyone. We do know that exercise can elevate your mood and reduce stress and increase
energy. Also, regular exercise can increase self esteem, self confidence and enhance one’s body
image. All of these can be contributing factors to more rewarding experiences in the bedroom.

Exercise releases endorphins that produce a sense of well being that might make us more receptive
to sex. Maybe the improved muscle tone and overall better functioning of all of our body systems
including our cardiovascular system give us the strength and energy to perform. I don’t know if there
will be a definitive answer and I am not sure it matters why. I do know that no matter what your reason
to exercise, this is just one more positive side effect exercise has on our bodies our lives and the
ones we love.
